Art of the Bag - A speed Bag Story
August 31, 2012
About the Art:
- This is a 6” square piece of 3/8” thick plate glass. Heavy Duty!!
-The design is engraved deeply from the backside to give a 3-D relief to the picture... almost “hologram-like.” (2-d pictures don’t do it justice!)
-The base is handcrafted out of hardwood and micro LED lighting and electronics have been installed to light the art.
-The glass is firmly held in place in the base and when the microswitch is flipped RED LED lights bring the art to life!
-You can feel the power and love of the speed bag addiction whether the LEDs are on or off!
-This is a custom designed, one-of-a-kind piece of art produced by TheBlastingCabinet.com for this auction.
-The winner will have the option of having his or her name or message engraved next to the baggers feet.
-All proceeds will go towards funding the independent film “Art of the Bag - A Speed Bag Story.”
About the Artist / Why the heck are you doing this Matt?!?!
I started to hit the speed bag while going through cancer treatment. As an athlete, I was severely sidelined during my diagnosis and treatment... very frustrating. I found an outlet through the speed bag. Learning to hit was a task that required skill and patience, but was not taxing on my body. In fact it relaxed me and required concentration to learn, so much that I was swept away from my worries as I learned and got better.
I found a wealth of information at The Speed Bag Forum and also found an incredible group of positively charged speed bag addicts. Their support and enthusiasm was contagious. Speed bagging helped me recover and has become a part of my workouts ever since. I hit the bag everyday! Thanks to everyone on the forum, especially Alan Khan, Tim Platt, The SpeedBag Skunk (Zack), and the faceless master Eboyzn for their dedication, videos, tips, friendliness, instruction and time. Joe Saba (Zaza) is a fellow bagger, film maker and friend - this auction is going to help fund a project that everyone on the forum has been wanting to see get done.
I encourage everyone to learn to hit the speed bag - you will love it - you will be challenged - you will become addicted! BID BID BID on this auction! Thank you!

- Hand drawn crest, hand engraved.
- Base is wooden and is hand crafted.
- Base contains a low profile electronics package which controls the micro-LED lighting.
- The lights are controlled by an infrared remote control, so colors can be changed from a distance.
- The LEDs are able to change color to suit the user's mood (see pictures), they can even flash when The ARMY TEAM scores!!!!
- This item has a small footprint yet makes a large statement with both attention to detail in the crest engraving and the light it gives off.
- The electronics system is same used on the lighted communication signs designed and created by Matt for NASA's Space Operations - See video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AovE5x8fZkc&feature=youtu.be&t=4m47s
